ADRIANO AMBROSINI

Biography

   He was graduated at Conservatorio “Dall’Abaco” in Verona with M.° R.Bonizzato, and then he studied with B.Canino, M.Damerini e P.L.Aimard.

   He was suddendly invited by important italian and foreign Music Association, like IRCAM in Paris, International Computer Music Conference, Contemporary Music
Festival in L’Avana, Holland Festival in Amsterdam, Camden Festival in London,WissenshaftsKolleg in Berlin, Catalan Composers Association in Barcelona, Festival “Eco e Narciso”, Aterforum, Festival “Venezia Opera prima” at “Teatro La Fenice”
in Venice, Biennale Musica 1982, 1985 and 1990, Festival “Nuova Consonanza”, Musica Verticale, “Autunno Musicale” in Como, Amici della Musica di Verona,Vicenza e del Veneto, “Festival Musica ‘900” in Trento, “Società del Quartetto” in Vicenza, “Settimana Musicale Chigiana”, “Spazio Musica” in Cagliari, “Cantiere Internazionale di Montepulciano”, “Sonopolis”, Contemporary Music Festival in Bozen, ecc.

   In 1983 he received the prize for the best performance of works by Dutch Composers at the International Competition “Gaudeamus” in Rotterdam.

   He has played with the violinist Enzo Porta and the flautist Anna Maria Morini, and with them he recorded a CD dedicated to the italian composers Manzoni, Maderna, Guarnieri (Limen Classic).
   With the Tammittam Percussion Ensemble, he has recorded (first world recording) some pieces by the american composer L.Harrison (Dynamic CDS 401).

   Recently, Octandre published a CD dedicated to Armando Gentilucci, including compositions for solo piano and violin and piano (with violinist E.Porta).

   His performance of Cage Sonatas and Interludes and Scelsi: Suite IX are broadcasted by Sky Classic.

  He has played some first performances, like Traiettoria by M.Stroppa for piano and electronic sounds. His performances were broadcasted by RAI (Italian RadioTelevision), Radio France, Holland Radio e Radio of Italian Switzerland.

  He is piano Professor at the Music Conservatory in Verona and gave master classes in Bruxelles, Glasgow, Helsinki, Tampere, Tallinn, Göteborg, La Coruña,
Oviedo.

 

Duo Re-Imagine

Dario Doronzo & Pietro Gallo

    Trumpet     &    Piano

Biography

   The “Re-Imagine” duo is composed by the flugelhornist Dario Savino Doronzo (1986) and the pianist Pietro Gallo (1985), musicians with classical background, but also performers extremely eclectic from Jazz Music to World Music. Doronzo graduated in Trumpet, Jazz Music, Musical Tecnoilogies, Direction and Composition for Choir with Armando Tonelli, Vito A. Morra and Roberto Ottaviano. Gallo graduated and specialized in Piano with Eleonora Orlando.

   They performed in major Concert Halls and Jazz Festival in Italy and abroad: “Carnegie Hall” of New York, “Spectrum NYC” of Brooklyn, IIC – Italian Cultural Institute of New York, “Thelonious Jazz Club” of Buenos Aires, Auditorium “Juan Victoria” of San Juan (Ar), “University of Arts” of Tirana and Auditorium “Gjon Kapidani” of Scutari (Al), “RuidalSud” International Festival of Arts, Municipal Conservatory of Thermi / Thessaloniki (Gr), “Ciglana  Klub” of Belgrade (Cs), “Kulturni Centar” of Novi Sad (Cs), Manhattan Theater of Rome, Talos Festival, Spazio Classica of Milan, Piacenza Jazz Fest, Beat Onto Jazz Festival, Rodi Jazz Festival (It), European Arts Academy – International Music Fondation, etc.

    They awarded in more than 20 International Music Competitions as Jazz Soloists. Their concerts have been favourably advised by critics in Italian and foreign magazines and newspapers concerning his field.

   They devote also to teaching. They held courses and seminaries focus on Trumpet and on Jazz Performance in Italy and abroad (America, Argentine, Greece, Albania, Serbia, etc.). They teach Trumpet and Piano in Italian Music High Schools of Music.

TERESA NOVOA

Biography

   She has got her degree in Piano and Singing. She also did take master classes with outstanding teachers such as Montserrat Caballé, Jaime Aragall, Ileana Cotrubas, Danielle Ferro, Felix Lavilla or Miguel Zanetti. She has performed Opera and Zarzuela such as “La Bruja”, “La Dolores”, “Me llaman la presumida” or “Die Walkirie” or Oratories “Misa in C minor”, “Exultate Jubilate” by Mozart, Stabat Mater by Pergolessi or Boccherini and ”Little solemnis mass” by Rossini. She has sung all through Spain and out of it such as “Don Quichotte festival” at Paris “Vingtième Theâtre” Tolousse, Buenos Aires and Mar de Plata in Argentina, Venezuela, Brasil, Italy, Cuba, Germany and Portugal. She´s got many recordings and the most outstanding one was “Cantos de amor y Guerra” by Rodrigo with RTVE Orchestra conducted by Enrique García Asensio granted with the Spanish musical price at 2001.

 

BEATRIZ RIOBO AGULA

Soprano

Biography

   Born in Vigo, she has got her major in English and she has a diploma in bagpipes and is also graduated in singing at Vigo´s Superior Conservatorie. She also did study an advanced singing degree at Royall College of Music in London. From the very beginning, prestigious voices such as the professor Helena Lazarska or conductors like José de Eusebio or Andrés Zarzo pointed her as a reference voice at the national scene. From 1998 to 2005 worked at Madrid Royall Opera House, combining her activity at the theatre with the development of pedagogic concerts for children. At 2002 she is granted with the price of “Juventudes Musicales” in Spain. Nowadays she is teaching at Vigo´s Superior Conservatoire.

HUGH WARD-PERKINS

Music History

Biography

   Vourneen Ryan began her studies with Doris Keogh at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. In 1995, Vourneen was awarded a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she studied under Edward Beckett, Philippa Davies, Sarah Newbold and Paul Edmund-Davies. Vourneen held the position of sub-principal flute with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra from 2004-2007 and now freelances regularly with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, RTE Concert Orchestra, RTE Symphony Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Opera Theatre Company and the Scottish Ballet. Vourneen has given many recitals at home and abroad including chamber music recitals with Gael Winds quintet, Fusion wind quintet and the Oriel trio. She performed on the critically acclaimed Louth Contemporary Music Society’s CD’s “A Place Between” and “Path” and is a regular contributor at Kaleidoscope’s monthly music nights. Along with her performing career, Vourneen has been involved in setting up and implementing a Career Strategy programme for students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Royal Irish Academy of Music. She is a member of the AEC SMS Working Group on
Entrepreneurship in Higher Education and has an MA in Arts Management and Cultural Policy from UCD, Dublin. Her interest in professional development opportunities for musicians motivated her to complete an MSc qualification in Sports and Exercise
psychology at WIT in 2015, with the intention of applying psychology to the world of performance. Vourneen is currently a teacher of flute studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and utilises mental skills training techniques to motivate and inspire
her students. She is the owner and director of The School of Performance www.theschoolofperformance.com, a consultancy dealing specifically with providing psychology services to performing artists worldwide. Vourneen is a recipient of Countess
of Munster, Hattori Foundation and Arts Council of Ireland bursaries.

 

Biography

   Hugh Ward-Perkins was born in Rome, graduated in Medieval History and Italian Literature at the University of Oxford and obtained diplomas in organ and harpsichord at the Conservatoires of Bolzano and Ferrara respectively. He has performed (mainly as a harpsichordist in early music ensembles), done research (in the field of Renaissance and Baroque music) and for many years has taught history of music in Italian conservatories. From 2008 to 2014 he was director of the Conservatory of Verona. He is particularly interested in themes he believes are essential for the survival of artistic training in today’s world: the role of musicians in the 21st century; the interdisciplinary collaboration between Higher Education Institutions (universities, conservatoires and academies); and the importance of international relations. With the assistance of European colleagues he has created Verona Risuona, a ground-breaking interdisciplinary public spaces event active since 2007. And together with colleagues from other European arts academies, including Yasar University, he has coordinated the European projects S.A.C.S. (Sound Art in City Spaces, 2008-2011) and I.I.C.S. (Interdisciplinary Involvement and Community Spaces, 2012-2014).

Biography

    Gesine Schröder, professor for music theory at the University for Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig (since 1992) and at the University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna (since 2012). As a guest advisor she held lessons in Poland (Poznan, Wroclaw), in China (Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Shanghai), in Oslo, Paris, Santiago de Chile, and Zürich. 2012–16 President od the GMTH (association of German-speaking Music Theory). Member of the editorial board for the Romanian journal RevArt, the journal of the Russian Society for Music Theory OTM, the German series Musik & Ästhetik, and a musicological series from KU Graz. Research interests: history of music theory, counterpoint around 1600, history of orchestration and conducting, gender studies, new music. Several publications.

VIOLA

Biography

  Andra Darzins is acclaimed throughout Europe, Australia, Asia, North and South America as a soloist and chamber musician. Born to Latvian parents in Australia, she studied in Adelaide and as a Churchill Fellowship and DAAD scholarship holder in Berlin with Wolfram Christ, finishing her Masters degree with distinction. She was principal violist of the Hamburg Philharmonic from 1993 to 2004, when she was appointed professor in Stuttgart. She has given several world premieres, including the viola concerto dedicated to her by the Latvian composer Maija Einfelde. Among her awards and distinctions are a first prize at the ABC Concerto Competition in South Australia, the Prix Frédéric Liebstoeckl at the Geneva Competition, a second prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and the Eduard Söring Prize of the Hamburg Opera. She has released a number of solo CDs, which have received prizes and been highly praised by music critics. The recent CD “America”, on which she plays the solo viola in Feldmans „Rothko Chapel“ together with the SWR Vokalensemble was awarded the „Prize of the German Record Critics“ in 2014.

Biography

   Justus Grimm received his first introductory cello lessons at the age of five at first from his father, followed by studies with Ulrich Voss, Claus Kanngiesser and later with Frans Helmerson in Stockholm and Cologne. He proved his outstanding talent in various competitions. Playing alongside the pianist Florian Wiek, he also won the first prize in the Maria Canals music competition in Barcelona and was also awarded the prize of the German Music Council. Justus Grimm's solo and chamber music performances took him throughout Europe. The beginning of his career in 1993 was marked by his splendid performance as a soloist in the première by Matthias Pintscher's cello concert "La Metamorfosi di Narciso" with the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra and continued to maintain his solo performance in cooperation with many other orchestras, including the English Chamber Orchestra, the London Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre Royal de Wallonie, the Lithuanian National Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de la Monnaie, the Bonn Classical Philharmonic or the Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt. As part of his performances, Justus Grimm was already a guest in many of the most renowned concert halls in the world like the Berlin Philharmonic, the Music Hall in Hamburg, the Cologne Philharmonic, the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, the Munich Hercules Hall and the Cultural Centre in Lisbon. In 2012 his performance of Tchaikovsky's "Rococo Variations" with the Orchestre Symphonique de la Monnaie conducted by Carlo Rizzi was broadcast live from the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels as part of a TV production. Justus Grimm made his remarkable chamber music career together with renowned artists like Abdel Raman El Bacha, Gerard Caussé, Augustin Dumay, Stephen Kovacevich, Antonio Pappano and Kazushi Ono. He accepted invitations to major festivals, including the Ludwigsburg Festival, the Festival van Vlaanderen, Lisbon's Dias da Musica, the Florilegio Salamanca Festival, Sonoro Romania, Thy Chambermusic Festival, Forte Music Fest Almaty, Cantiere Di Montepulciano, Brussel’s Klara Music Festival and the Resonances Festival. Besides live recordings by many European radio stations there are already numerous CD records. Worth mentioning here is a CD, Trio Wiek (Christina Fassbender, Justus Grimm and Florian Wiek) with works by Philippe Gaubert, who was awarded a 5/5 rating by the French magazine Diapaison. 2012 saw the recording with earlier works by George Enescu that was highly acclaimed by the international press and shortly thereafter a complete recording of the chamber music works by Cesar Franck, which was awarded the Prix Cecilia as the best CD of the year 2012 by the Belgian press. As a founding member of the Malibran quartet ( www.malibranquartet.com ) he devoted himself to the exceptionally rich repertoire of this genre since 2008. Teaching plays a central role in the artistic life of Justus Grimm. Following tutorship at the Brussels Chapelle Reine Elisabeth (2002-2003) and at the Institut Superieur de Musique de Namur (2003-2008), he held the title as professor for violoncello at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in 2008, where he acts also as the Artistical Director since 2013. He plays a violoncello dated 1760 of P.A. Testore. During the season 19/20 Justus Grimm will join International Festivals as a soloist and teacher in Belgium, Serbia, Romania, Germany, Poland, Kazachstan and Denmark.

 

Biography

   A student of the great Brazilian virtuoso pianist Roberto Szidon, Erato Alakiozidou’s repertoire includes a broad range of important classical and contemporary works.

     In the last few years she has taken special interest in the study and promotion of music by Greek composers of the 20th & 21st century. Distinguished contemporary composers have dedicated some of their works to her, in order to receive their world premiere.

  She frequently ventures out to create innovative projects, perform contemporary music, conduct artistic research and design pedagogic projects.

  She performs extensively in important European festivals and concert halls, to great critical acclaim. She is also regularly invited by musical associations as a jury member to competitions or to give master classes in academic institutions.

  She has recorded for Subways music, Ankh productions, Protasis productions and since 2017 she is recording for Odradek Records.

IPKE STARKE

COMPOSITION

Biography

   Ipke Starke,* 1965, is professor for electro-acoustic music and music theory at the University for Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig (since 2000). He studied in Leipzig with Siegfried Thiele and Friedrich Schenker. From 1991 he joined the doctoral seminar at IRCAM (Paris), then took additional studies in composition and electro-acoustics at the Conservatoire de Paris (with Alain Bancquart and Emmanuel Nunes). 1996–2000 he was assistant musical for computer-aided composition at IRCAM. He is the head of DEGEM (German Society for Electro-acoustic Music).Ipke Starke composed for diverse instrumental ensembles (i.a. „Marsch&Idylle“ for violin solo, „"L‘état"“ for 6 violoncellos and 6 double basses, "„Couplet - Als Motiv nannte der Täter seine schlechte finanzielle Situation"“ for soprano, oboe and violin, „battery“ for percussion sextet), also with live-electronics ("I always work alone - für Arnold Schwarzenegger" for violoncello and live-elektronics) and pieces for tape (i.a. „"Flurstück"“, „"Die unsichtbare Front“", „"Saturation (Sättigung)“"). Since 1989 he requently produces genre-combining works in collaboration with visual artists (film music, sound installations and music with video).Starke's works were performed in Germany and abroad by several ensembles from the New-Music-Scene (i.a. Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Les Percussions de Strasbourg).

MANTAUTAS KRUKAUSKAS

COMPOSITION

Biography

   Mantautas Krukauskas (b. 1980) - composer and sound artist, teacher at the Department of Composition of Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, as well as Head of Music Innovation Studies Centre. His compositions, including chamber music, audiovisual and sound art works, music for theatre productions have been performed in Lithuania, Austria, Germany, France, Canada, USA, and other countries. Mantautas Krukauskas has been actively involved in various organizational activities, including project coordination, event organizing, participation in international artistic, research and educational programmes. His interests comprise interdisciplinarity, creativity, music and media technologies, and a synergy of different aesthetic and cultural approaches.
